What You Need To Know About Warm Home Discount

If you are struggling to pay your energy bills during the winter months, or even if you’re still looking for a place to live via an online property agent, you could be eligible for the Warm Home Discount scheme when you move in, which means you may be able to take £140 off your electricity bill.

The scheme, introduced in 2011 and running until 2021 has seen a government partnership with electricity suppliers to help provide support to those who need is most. The saving comes in the form of a one-off rebate payment deposited into your account or as a credit voucher for pay meters.

If you are receiving Cold Weather of Winter Fuel scheme payment, you may also be eligible for the above if:

  • You or your partner’s name are on the bill
  • You meet the “core” or “broader” group requirements

The core group is comprised of individuals receiving the Guarantee Credit part of Pension Credit or the Guarantee Credit and the Savings Credit part of Pension Credit. But don’t worry, if this isn’t you, you may still be able to claim as part of the broader group criteria if you receive:

  • Income support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
    Universal credit
  • Your gross annual household income is less than £16,190
