Cubitt Town | London Area Guide

In a residential area of East London on the Isle of Dogs, there is a middle-class neighbourhood known as Cubitt Town. There, working- and middle-class families live in low-rise and mid-rise apartment buildings. Generally speaking, the area is safe however certain neighbourhoods are prone to violence. The attractive aspects of Cubitt Town include its affordability compared to other communities. Even if having a car is a big deal to you, you will always be able to find plenty of parking. Most people in the city rely on public transportation, which makes getting around the city effortless for people who don’t own a car. In addition, this area is of little interest to you. The Canary Wharf neighbourhood is the only option you have for things to do.

History of Cubbit Town

This region was originally built to house the expanding population of employees in the local ports, shipbuilding yards, and manufacturers, with most of the improvements made between the 1840s and 1850s. Because it flourished, Cubitt created a number of local businesses as well as the streets of houses to serve the needs of manual labour.

As considerable new redevelopment occurs, the nature of Cubitt Town is changing. The community is made up of several ethnicities, and there is a great deal of social housing in the area. Apartments that range from low-rise to mid-rise are commonplace. New luxury riverside development, including the pulling down and rebuilding of the brutalist Robin Hood Gardens estate, is in the process of transforming the neighbourhood.
